This airport was a Navy training base in WWII and deeded to the city with the provision it always remains an airport. It's a working airport with the country's largest maker of amphibious floats. It also has a very active flight school. Contrary to what some other inaccurate reviews here claim, flight patterns are strictly set and haven't changed because of the proximity of MSP and downtown St Paul Airport. The pilots fly conscientiously within their limitations. It's a shame some people bought houses unaware there was an airport there.

That was short lived. The pilots flew over the river for a couple weeks but now are back to flying exclusively over heavily populated areas at low altitude disturbing everyone for their hobby. This airport seems to exist for no reason but for them to practice. Which means it exists for the benefit of a handful of selfish people and thousands of residents suffer as a result. Time to go to the Legislature and shut this place down. Old Update: 5 Stars! The airport has recently (early May ‘23) changed the pattern for practicing takeoff/landings to fly over the river to the east instead of the populated areas to the west. THANK YOU!!! I live in a quiet area except for the airport. And I’m not in the runway flight path but a mile straight west of the midpoint. The pilots tend to fly low over the houses. I’m not in the flight path but get buzzed all day by the same aircraft maybe 500 feet up flying in circles, never gaining altitude. Every 5 minutes they roar back. It’s loud even indoors. It’s clear the pilots don’t care about the thousands of people they disturb as long as they’re having fun. Not a good neighbor.

As others have shared, the pilots seem unaware (or unconcerned) by their altitude and the noise that makes. One would assume there would be regulations (e.g., Flight path, hours of operation, minimum altitude) and that this airport would follow them. They either don't exist or are not enforced. Despite being a long way from the airport, we regularly have pilots practicing touch-and-goes at very low altitudes in the evenings when we are hoping to enjoy dinner outside. The noise is deafening and very disappointing!

It was a free volunteer day for the kids. My kids had a blast, and Pilot Riley made my kids smile. He was an experienced, skilled, and kind pilot. I appreciate what he did and thank him from the bottom of my heart.
