I’ve flown with this airline a few times, but it’s been getting worse each time. Their baggage policies are ridiculously strict, and their scales often seem inaccurate — almost like they’re designed to make you pay extra. What’s worse is the check-in experience: it’s slow, disorganized, and if you don’t immediately comply with their baggage rules, they’ll send you to the back of the line to “fix it” and start over. It feels more like a punishment than a process. What used to be a manageable airline has become stressful, petty, and profit-driven. Disappointing and frustrating every step of the way.

This was my first experience with Qatar Airways after hearing about it for years, and due to a cancelled trip with another airline, I decided to pay extra hoping for a better experience. I even arrived 4 hours earlier to ensure a smooth check-in since I had 6 bags and my mother with me, who can’t stand for too long. Unfortunately, I ended up dealing with the worst employee I’ve ever encountered — Wasi. The very first thing he said, with an aggressive expression, was: “This handbag cannot be in the airplane.” I calmly explained that I was carrying it because I had some medicine I might need, and that I could easily place it inside one of my checked bags, as I still had 6 kilos of space in each. Instead of handling the situation professionally, he stood there with angry body language and said: “You should be out. If you don’t get rid of this bag, I won’t put you on the flight.” It was embarrassing and unnecessary. I explained again that it was practically weightless and empty, and that it would take me less than a second to sort it out. Still, he told me to step out of the line and come back later. As a result, I checked my mother in first and then had to stand in another line for an hour and a half. I completely understand that airlines have policies, and I respect that. If I needed to pay extra or even get rid of the bag altogether, I wouldn’t have minded. But to be spoken to and treated as if I’d committed a crime — with that level of attitude — was unacceptable. Honestly, I’m never flying with Qatar Airways again. I’ve been traveling my whole life with Emirates and other airlines, and never once have I seen an employee behave like this. What did he even gain from it? I almost missed my flight because of a silly policy and the miserable attitude of one employee.

This review is about economy class Houston to Munich. The checkin procedure in Houston was fast. When we got on the aircraft to Doha we noticed that the aircraft's floor by our feet was very wet as if something was dripping on it or spilled on it. We reported this to the flight attendant. The only solution she offered was placing blankets on the floor which she did. This reduced the already tight space around the seats significantly on a 15 hour flight. My travel companion's flight map was not working, we like to track the flight path on the map. No amenity kits were given on Munich to Doha flight. Non-specialty food was better than economy food on US airlines. My travel companion did not like the asian vegetarian option and asked for the meatless option that was offered to people who did not request speciality food. Flight attendands were better groomed and also friendlier than US airlines flight attendants.

“Very disappointed with the service. The check-in staff was extremely rude and unprofessional. She allowed other passengers to cut in front of us, and when it was finally our turn, she refused to let us board even though she clearly could have helped us. Her attitude was disrespectful and unkind. Staff like this do not deserve to work for Qatar Airways or for any airline with such a good reputation. This was a terrible experience.”

I have flown Qatar Airways in/out of a variety of USA airports (Philadelphia, New York JFK, Boston, and Atlanta). Their Houston IAH service has been my favorite and best experience. I was coming into IAH on an American Airlines domestic flight from CLT, and the connection process to the D terminal where Qatar airways operates out of was very convenient using the skytrain. Like my other QR experiences, I had to be called for a document check at the gate. The gate agent assisting me was extremely helpful, and managed to secure me a row to myself, which I greatly appreciated on a close to 15 hour flight in summer. He was very professional and friendly. Flight was on time and overall a very comfortable experience, coming from a OneWorld frequent flier.
