(I am going to update this review as time goes on, in hopes that it gets better) MAIN POINT FOR THE READER: Beware potential PPL student, this flight school in the context of PPL training may be a waste of both your time and money. PHOTO: This photo shows all but one of their Cessna aircrafts down for maintenance. PREFACE: Back in January 2025, I signed up for flight training which was set to start on April 2, 2025. I was scheduled to fly every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. In the time from January to April I completed Sporty's Online Ground School, and took my FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test on April 15th nd passed with a 90%. (As a student I do not think I could have been anymore proactive.) On April 2nd I met with my CFI only to find out many of the flights (aircrafts) I was scheduled to conduct my training in would be canceled due to those aircrafts having mechanical issues and being grounded. I was told to reschedule my flights, but I as a BRAND NEW STUDENT have no idea what I am looking at as far as mechanical squawk codes. CURRENT SITUATION: It is now May 2, and I have only flown twice... Yet I was scheduled on the calendar to fly every single Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in April. I understand that as a VFR pilot weather can ground you, also mechanical things happen randomly that ground aircrafts. However, this is hardly the case. The problem is Capital City Aviation's fleet of aircrafts advertised on their website, and the reality of what you can fly are two very different things. Almost every single aircraft is down for maintenance, a lot of which was reported months ago and has been repeatedly deferred. SUMMARY: PROs: Capital City Aviation has very knowledgeable and friendly staff/CFIs. They offer the ability to schedule yourself on an app called Flight Schedule Pro so you can pick your own availability. They are a towered airport so the student will have valuable experience working with ATC. CONs: There fleet of aircrafts advertised on their website, and the reality of what you can actually fly are two very different things. You will not be given any advise on what to buy or bring before you begin your flight training. You will have many students all competing for very limited flyable aircrafts. I genuinely am trying to remain as objective as possible and I hope that my experience gets better here at Cap City and that this is just a temporary bad situation.

If your looking to start your Private, to add ratings, or just looking for a good place to rent and build time in central Ohio. Capital City Aviation should be your first stop! Their facility is top notch, with amazing staff ready to help with any and all questions. The instructors are by far the best I have flown with in my 20 plus years of flying, extremely knowledgeable from the ground to the air. The aircraft are extremely clean and well maintained, ready for you when you arrive for your adventure. If you tried the rest you should try the best flight school that central Ohio has to offer.

I wish I could say that the experience I had was the best, unfortunately it was not. As a commercial pilot I fly around different cities and get checked out to rent different planes through different flight schools. I understand that if you’re a student wanting to get training you’re required to show your legal status, passport or birth certificate if you’re an American citizen, for non citizens you’re required to get prior to any flight training, approval from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) through the Alien Flight Student Program (AFSP). I got in contact with the school and scheduled a check out flight, prior to the flight I’m being asked to bring proof of citizenship in with me, when I’m not planning on pursuing any endorsement with them. Who travels within the US with a passport or birth certificate unless your name Changed or you lost your driver license. I do have with me the required paperwork by the FAA to be legal to fly. Furthermore as Latino I feel disgusted by the school policy. As American citizen if they need to check my legal status I’m sure immigration can help them out, but they’re not immigration. In response to your answer, I don’t think it’s correct to go on a back and fourth, but you’re correct and multiple schools are not. I’d expect my membership fee to be refunded. Thank you

Reviewing from the perspective of a 40+ year old person who started with zero aviation knowledge... if you are interested in becoming a pilot, you have to look into Capital City Aviation. What started with a call to setup a discovery flight, I'm now a part of an amazing CapCity community of students, instructors, newer and veteran pilots. Lessons are easily booked online and their quality fleet (also expanding) allowed me to fly with regularity around my work schedule. My instructor has been highly dedicated to my success and growth as a pilot. If flying has been a dream of yours, give them a call. My only regret is not having done this sooner!

Training here has been an awesome experience! The instructors are very thorough and cater to everyones needs. You also have access to a flight simulator on the rainy days. I have noticed positive growth in my training and super excited to continue through Capital City!
