Gave one star because zero stars is not an option. On October 28th, 2024 my wife and I came to Denver International Airport with tickets to fly from DIA to Mactan Airport in Cebu, Philippines. She was scheduled to return to the US on November 28th and I was to return on April 30th, 2025. At the Alaska Airlines check-in desk we were told by Meghan that I would not be allowed on the airplane in Seattle because on arrival at Mactan I would be able to get a visa for only 30 days. We knew for a fact that US citizens traveling with their spouse who is a Philippine citizen will automatically get a ‘Balikbayan’ visa good for one year. We tried to convince Meghan of this. Marly has a US passport but was carrying the paperwork to prove she is a dual citizen. called your visas “expert” who agreed with her that I would get only a 30 day visa. My wife and I remained quite civil and Meghan was only doing her job. We were forced to change my ticket so I would be returning to the US on November 28th. That cost us $550.00. Of course when we arrived at Mactan I was given a visa for one year. Later we once again changed my return ticket to the original April 30 2025 date. That cost us an additional $357.00 and $5 for a phone call from the Philippines to CheapOAir in the US. Of course this episode also caused us considerable stress and wasted several hours of our time. Sent my complaint to Alaska Airlines several months ago and received no response.

I would give negative stars if I could. We paid for a direct flight for my mother in law 5 months ago. Should have been a 50 minute flight. THE DAY before the trip we find out the itinerary changed, it’s no longer a direct flight, there is now a connection with a layover and the trip is now 5 hours. I call to complain, the rep is nice but gives every excuse in the book that doesn’t involve Alaska Airlines taking any blame. Then, wouldn’t you know it, right before her flight is about to land a flash thunderstorm hits our city. The flight had to divert to an airport 4 hours away. Wouldn’t have happened if they hadn’t changed the original flight. No idea if/when my mother in law will get here now. To say driving (6 hours) would have been better is an understatement. A Greyhound bus would been a better experience than this.

Second flight on Alaska for a quick trip to and from Boise, ID. The first time I told myself I would never use this airline again. Well I made the same mistake hoping for a better outcome. My mistake. This airline is just horrible! The staff are rude, the flights are awful (do these pilots actually know how to take off and land??) they were trying to sell everyone on the AA credit card and stated they would hand out brochures, but our stewardesses were far too busy flirting with the cowboys on board! I already have the credit card with it's promise of great service and rewards, where are my rewards?? At least the plane didn't break down like my first flight! Beware!!

Fly Southwest. The service at Alaska was slow because their printers were broken and they separate lines by class. So if you are in standard then they just keep calling people from the first class line. I waited forever only to find out that their baggage fee for an instrument was way too high. Fly Southwest: they give you two free bags and they can even be large items like instruments or sports equipment. By the time I got through the security line it was 7 minutes before the departure time. The Alaska representative wouldn’t let me on. They reminded me that I got the cheapest ticket and that I would probably just have to buy another ticket at full price. Fly Southwest: they have no change fees. Fly Southwest: they seem to really care about their customers.
